Navigating insurance coverage for hair prosthetics, also known as cranial prostheses, can be complex. While many insurance companies are increasingly recognizing these as a medical necessity for certain conditions, the level of coverage often depends on your specific plan and the medical reason for hair loss.
Some private insurance and government programs (such as Tricare, Medicaid, and Medicare) MAY cover partial or all cost for your cranial prosthetic for “medically necessary” reasons. Check with your insurance provider or government program, but be sure to state your hair piece is a “cranial prosthetic” NOT a hair piece, wig, or alternative hair.
